“George Enescu”
International Festival
The 19th edition of the International Festival and Competition “George Enescu” will take place in the period August 30th – September 26th, in Bucharest, as well as in other important cities in Romania.
On Sunday, the 30th of August, the National Opera House in Bucharest will have the privilege of opening the festival with the opera “Oedipe” by George Enescu, produced by the NOB in co-operation with Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse. The direction of the performance is signed by Nicolas Joel, the decors belong to Ezio Frigerio, the costumes – France Squarciapino, lighting design – Vinicio Cheli. The performance is conducted by Oleg Caetani, while the choir master is Stelian Olariu. The second performance will take place on Wednesday, the 2nd of September, at 7:00 p.m.

On the 2nd of September 2009, the title role will be performed by baritone Stefan Ignat, the rest of the casting remaining the same.
On Saturday, the 5th of September, at 7:00 p.m., NOB will host the performance “Otello” by Giuseppe Verdi, a production of the Romanian National Opera House in Cluj-Napoca. Verdi’s immortal roles will be performed by world famous artists, together with artists of the Transylvanian Opera House, directed by the well-known theater director Mihai Maniutiu. The performance will be conducted by Miguel Gomez-Martinez; choir master – Vladimir Popean. The decors and costumes were created by Valentin Codoiu, while the lighting design is signed by Jenel Moldovan.

On Friday, the 11th of September and Sunday, the 13th of September, it will be the turn of the National Opera House in Bucharest to present its audience sublime moments with the opera “Manon Lescaut” by Giacomo Puccini. Conductor – Keri Lynn Wilson; choir master – Stelian Olariu. The performance is directed by Andrei Tabacaru-Hogea, the scenography and the lighting design – by architect Catalin I. Arbore, while the choreography belongs to Mihai Babuska.

The scenography is signed Luisa Spinatelli, lighting design – Sergio Rossi, conductor – Tiberiu Soare.

The performance is directed by Petrica Ionescu, the scenography is signed by the architect Catalin I. Arbore, the stage movement by Ileana Niculescu, and the choir master is Stelian Olariu.

On the 24th of September, NOB will host the concert version of the opera “Celan” by Peter Ruzicka, the musical presentation of the performance belonging to conductor Vlad Conta and choir master Stelian Olariu. The concert will be conducted by the composer of the opera himself. The stage movement is signed by Anda Tabacaru Hogea.

Sâmbata, 5 septembrie, de la ora 19.00, pe scena ONB va fi prezentat spectacolul “Otello” de Giuseppe Verdi, o productie a Operei Nationale Române din Cluj-Napoca. În regia reputatului om de teatru Mihai Maniutiu, vor interpreta nemuritoarele roluri verdiene artisti de talie internationala, împreuna cu cei ai operei transilvanene. Dirijorul evenimentului va fi Miguel Gomez-Martinez, maestru de cor – Vladimir Popean. Decorurile si costumele sunt creatia lui Valentin Codoiu, iar lighting design-ul este realizat de Jenel Moldovan.

Coordonarea scenica este realizata de Anda Tabacaru Hogea.Concertul va fi dirijat chiar de compozitorul operei.
