Earth Hour 2010 Print E-mail
What started at the beginning of March 2007 with the symbolic stand of the city of Sydney has shortly changed into an action, unprecedented in the history of mankind, a warning signal against the global warming. Over 1000 cities on the planet and hundreds of thousands of people participated, on the 28th of March 2009, in an event reuniting the invisible ties of conscience and hope in a simple and at the same time magnificent gesture: turning off the light for one hour long. Following the example of the big companies and of the emblematic buildings in Sydney and in other big cities of the world, the National Opera House in Bucharest has joined the “Earth Hour” movement and its supporters.

In the world, over 1700 cities in 108 countries have already registered to participate in this year’s event. Thus, on Saturday, 27th of March 2010, the National Opera House in Bucharest will turn off its outer lights between 8:30-9:30 p.m., although the opera “La Cenerentola” by Gioacchino Rossini will be performed on the theater stage at that time.
